Trompe L'Oeil

Seascape
1000 cm x 240 cm (10 m x 2.4 m)
Acrylic on cement sheet

Possibly the last mural I will paint, as I am now concentrating on easel painting.

A friend (and previous client) wanted a seascape rather than a trompe l'oeil for his courtyard and I was determined not to make it too cliche with bright yellow sand and palm trees etc.
I chose an understated scene from reference photos I had taken for a previous painting in which I think the muted colours and simplicity works well.
The mural takes up the entire width of the client's backyard and I believe the muted hues stop it from being too loud.

When the area is landscaped, the pebbles at the bottom will cover the bottom edge of the painting.
